By using subtle variations in color and tone, King achieves a work that almost pulsates with light. The strong lines glow in this painting, leading your eye from one end of the composition to the other.
Clinton King initially began his artistic career as a painter, but developed an interest in sculpture during the late 90’s while assisting famed installation artist, Ann Hamilton. Around this time, Clinton dedicated 8 years to his sculpture practice, citing artists such as Wolfgang Laib and Arte Povera as positive creative influences. After receiving his BFA in painting from the Columbus College of Art and Design, Clinton went on to pursue his MFA in sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating in 2005. Working with sculpture provided a tactile and intuitive element to his creative process, deeply influencing his proceeding body of work.
